Introduction

    With the rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the urgent need of the market, ICT plays an important role in the development of the industry. The ICE department began with master program in August 2002. Then the undergraduate program was inaugurated in August 2007. The curriculum of ICE department emphasizes on two fields: ‘Information network’ and ‘Communication system’. In 2012, the ICE department was accredited by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET), both in undergraduate program and master program. The IEET accreditation bridges the department to international academic agreement such as Washington Accord and Sydney Accord. And the IEET accreditation expands the territory of student’s career worldwide. For the further development, four fields are set for the ICE department: network application and multimedia programming, network planning and management, embedded system, and communication system.

Features

The ICE department has the following features:

  1. Having been accredited by Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) from 2012 to 2015 which assures the degrees obtained in the department recognized globally under international agreement
  2. All 14 professors of Ph.D. degree and excellent in teaching and research
  3. Training students to have the ability to solve real-world problems
  4. Practice-oriented professional skill development focusing on both theory and on-hand experience
  5. Active in industry-academic cooperation to enhance the professional skills of faculty members and students through industry-academic projects while to provide internship for the students
  6. International exchange program to promote the international mobility for the students
  7. Up-to-date laboratories to train students including Internet Teaching Lab, Electronic Circuits and Communication Teaching lab, High Speed Network Computing Lab, System and Chip Design Lab, Wireless Communication Systems Lab, Mobile Computing and Image Processing Lab, Wireless Network Lab, Information Processing and Coding Technologies Lab, Embedded System Lab
  8. Advanced research fields including Internet of Thing, Smart Factories of Industry 4.0, Cloud computing, APP design, IP Multimedia Subsystem, 4G-LTE, Ultra-low power embedded systems, Wireless environmental monitoring systems, Network System-on-Chip, Wireless sensor networks, Software-Defined Networking, Artificial Intelligence, Communication signal processing, Communication system, Error correction codes, Integrated Biomedical System, and Low voltage low power circuits.

Curriculum

In response to the urgent needs for professionals on the information network and communication industry, the ICE department plans four groups of courses:

  • Network application and multimedia programming design courses: C/C++ Language, Object Oriented Programming, Java Language, Web Programming, Intelligent Device Programming, Multimedia Technologies for Networks, and Information Security
  • Network planning and management courses: Computer Network, Computer Networks Practice, Local Area Network Application and Implementation, Wide Area Network Application and Implementation, Wireless Network, Sensor Network Technologies, and Cisco Certified Network Association
  • Embedded system courses: C/C++ Language, Computer Organization & Architecture, Embedded System, Operation System, Assembly Language, Microprocessor System, Intelligent Control System, and Digital Logic Design and Practice
  • Communication system courses: Digital Logic Design and Practice, Electronic Circuits and Practice, Communication System and Practice, Signals & Systems, Digital Communication, Wireless communication systems, Mobile Communication, and VLSI Design
